Autumn Equinox: A Gentle Ritual for Release

An autumn equinox reflection to honour what is complete and make room for the season ahead.

Crystals, flowers and spiritual tools arranged on Georgia James’s studio altar

Create a small pause

You do not need elaborate tools. Choose a quiet place, make a warm drink and bring a notebook. If lighting a candle is safe in your space, you may use one as a simple marker that you are stepping out of ordinary momentum for a few minutes.

Notice what the season is showing you

The equinox offers an image of balance, but real balance is not a permanently even state. Ask where your energy has been going, what has been replenishing you and what has been quietly asking for less.

Write what is complete

Finish three sentences: ‘I no longer need to prove…’, ‘I am ready to stop carrying…’, and ‘I want to make room for…’. Let the answers be ordinary and honest. Release does not require a dramatic story.

Choose one action you can actually take

Close with one action small enough to complete within the next week: ending an obligation, asking for help, clearing a physical space or protecting an evening for rest.

Ritual becomes meaningful when it returns us to life with a clearer relationship to our choices. Keep what you wrote somewhere private and revisit it when the season turns again.
